Snow will be increasing over the mountains of Colorado but the plains will remain generally dry through the New Year

A weather pattern change is about to occur over the state of Colorado but the beneficial moisture and snow will remain in the mountains along and west of the continental divide.  Through the end of the year (or over the next 3-4 days) 1-2 feet of snow or more is expected to fall at the ski resorts, in particular over the central and southern mountains making for great timing if you have ski plans!  Over the eastern plains of Colorado down-slope winds (winds with a westerly component) will dominate and dry the air as it moves off the mountains resulting in only brief chances for a spill over rain/mix/snow showers at times.  A well timed snow shower Saturday morning would likely be welcomed by many but the chances are slim for anything resembling a white Christmas along the I-25 corridor…  Hopefully, as we turn the calendar over to 2022 the snow machine to turn on along the Front Range.
